Melissa Rachel Mees, age 50, passed away on October 30, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. Melissa was born on October 1, 1969 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Barbara and Fred Mees (deceased). She grew up as an only child surrounded by love.Melissa graduated from Parma Senior High School and afterwards worked at Parma Adult Training Center until diagnosed with a brain tumor in March of 2019.From birth Melissa lived with her mother Barbara until the age of 47 when she moved into her own apartment with her childhood friend, Kristen Day. This was the first “independent” adventure for both ladies and they embraced it.Melissa had a love of family, friends, music, dancing, bowling, travel and life in general. She had a smile that would light up a room and she had a laugh that was infectious. She was active in many organizations and activities which included The Dusti O’Conner Dance Studio, Friends Forever, SOAR, Welcome House, The Farrell Foundation art class and her church community. Melissa is survived by her Mother Barbara, her Aunt Paurnamasi Turkal (Uncle Mike), Uncle Jim McLemore (Aunt Wendy) and numerous cousins: Lesley, Jack, Jonas (Dave Lauver), Michael, Madeline, Lennon, Zachary, Jimmy (Wade McLemore), Patrick, Myles (Natalie McLemore), Lisa, Gabe (Andy Wojcinski) and Jeff Weissert. Melissa is predeceased by her Aunt Claudia McLemore, her grandparents Ann and Jim McLemore (Barbara McLemore) and grandmother Jean Mees (Johnny Johnson.) A Celebration of Life will be held at Cuyahoga Valley Church 5055 E. Wallings Road, Broadview Heights, on November 23 rd . Services will begin at 11:00am. A reception at the same location will follow. All are welcome. Melissa will be interred in a private service at a family plot in North Royalton. The family wishes to express our profound gratitude for the many acts of kindness shown to Melissa during this difficult time as well as all those who cared for Melissa: Welcome House staff, resident caretakers, the staff of University Hospital Seidman Cancer Center, Riverview Pointe Skilled Nursing staff and the Holy Family Hospice staff who provided loving physical, emotional and spiritual care.
