Larry Sargent was born in Pensacola, Florida on August 5, 1944, the eldest son of Edward Cutler Sargent and Nancy B. Lawrence Sargent – a World War II baby born near the Pensacola Naval Air Station where his father was stationed. Larry had three younger spirited brothers, was a life long resident of northeast Ohio, graduated from Berea High School and then John Carroll University. He was married Sept. 6, 1969 to Elizabeth “Liz” Elaine Taylor-they shared 46 years together and had one daughter Kathy Dawn. Liz passed away in 2015 and he subsequently married Deborah Lynn Gallen in 2017.

Larry’s career centered on his long term employment in government service, all within the Federal Department of Transportation. Larry’s private life focused on his devoted marriage to Liz, his daughter Kathy Dawn and his strong attachment to his church and religious life. He was an accomplished athlete earlier in life and was an avid Cleveland sports fan. Larry was a soft spoken, thoughtful and caring individual. He unfortunately began to experience a series of debilitating medical issues during his retirement years. He passed away at the Heights Care Center in Broadview Heights, Ohio on June 6, 2026 after a long period of decline.

Larry is survived by his wife Debbie, her four children and her nine grandchildren, his daughter Kathy Dawn Havelka, her husband Corey, and his two grandchildren Connor and Sarah Havelka. He also leaves his brother David Cutler Sargent and family of Ashburnham, MA, Edward Cutler Sargent, Jr. of Lincolnville, ME and Peter Birch Sargent, of Thailand.

A private memorial service will be held by the family. Donations may be made in Larry’s loving memory to: the American Diabetes Association
