In Loving Memory of Helmy Awad

Helmy Awad, 82, of North Royalton, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, veteran, and successful businessman, Helmy lived a life defined by perseverance, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Born in Egypt, Helmy's life was marked by courage and determination from an early age. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the Arab-Israeli War, an experience that became part of the remarkable journey that shaped his life. He later immigrated to the United States, where he built a new life for himself and his family. Through hard work, resilience, and an entrepreneurial spirit, Helmy became a successful businessman, creating opportunities and a foundation for the generations who followed him.

At the center of Helmy's life was his family. He shared 51 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mona Awad. Together, they built a life rooted in love, commitment, sacrifice, and devotion to their children and grandchildren. Of all that Helmy accomplished throughout his life, his family remained his greatest source of pride.

Helmy leaves behind his wife, Mona; his children, Germine Awad, David Awad, and Maggie Mawad; his sons-in-law, Kevin Cokley and Helmy Mawad; and his beloved grandchildren, Asa Cokley, Sophia Mawad, Lucas Mawad, Isis Cokley, Vera Mawad, and Evelyn Mawad. He also leaves behind his siblings, Nadia Awad, Youssef Awad, Nora Mawad, and Samira Awad.

He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished during his 82 years, but for the family he built, the sacrifices he made, and the lives that are better because he was part of them. His story will continue through his children and grandchildren, who will carry his memory, his values, and his love with them always.

The family will receive condolences on Monday, September 7th from 6-8 pm at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church (Social Hall), located at 2100 East Pleasant Valley Road, Seven Hills Ohio 44131. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 8th at 11:00 am at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church. Burial will be immediately following at Riverside Cemetery, and back to the church for the third prayer.
